Will I get my license when the Basic Rider’s class is over?
Upon successful completion you will receive a nationally recognized Motorcycle Safety Foundation Completion Card. This card is then presented to the local DMV (if in Florida) and you will receive your motorcycle endorsement. No further testing required other than the possibility of an eye test if the DMV deems it necessary. If you do not have a Florida Driver’s License it is your sole responsibility to check with your home state DMV and be certain that they will honor a MSF card issued in Florida. Rules will vary from state to state.
I’ve heard that the bikes are little. Will I fit?
The MSF sets very strict requirements for training bikes. We typically use the Buell® Blast®, a 492CC street bike manufactured by Harley-Davidson. We do have a couple of smaller or taller bikes to meet your needs. The typical gross vehicle weight is 780 lbs which leaves 400lbs of payload. If you weigh more that this you need to call us immediately to discuss other options for your rider education.
Why is your required riding gear different from what I’m required to wear on the street?
Safety is always first and foremost on our minds. Riding gear has two primary functions; comfort and protection. We teach you habits that will serve you well throughout your entire motorcycling career. If you have your own helmet, feel free to bring it along. The RiderCoaches will check it for proper fit and certifications. If not, we supply helmets from XS to 2 XL. If you are not in this size range you will be responsible for providing your own helmet. Speaking of fit, please do not wear high heeled boots to increase your height. The heels can be a hindrance as they don’t allow you to shift your foot forward on the footpeg. This can make it difficult to reach the shifter and rear brake. Motorcycle gloves are necessary for smooth operation of the controls as well as safety. Light colored clothing is best to prevent heat injury. Do Not dress in all black clothing. Proper gear has been found not only to protect you, but also will help accelerate your learning curve.
Is there a Pass / Fail ratio?
There is none, ideally everyone passes and rides off into the sunset. Some will find this class more challenging than others. There will be two tests required by the DMV for licensing, the first upon completion of your classroom session on Day 1. To set yourself up for success, please do your homework prior to class. A riding test will also be given upon completion of Day 3. Should you fail either of these, you may be retested with-in 60 days at no charge. In the event that you have to leave the class for safety reasons, you will be offered a one-hour private lesson at the prevailing rate (BRC Custom students will receive a private lesson at a significantly reduced rate). You will then be placed on stand-by status for the next class that meets your schedule.
If for some reason you should be injured in a class then you will be rescheduled for another confirmed class upon your recovery. The exception to this would be heat related injuries. If you know that you are susceptible, please schedule your class during a cooler time of year. Unfortunately, just like a college course, your tuition will not be refunded should you fail the course.
Can I reschedule my class once I book it?
Once we have received your payment for your class a firm booking has been made in that class for you. In the event that you need to reschedule a class, we will do everything that we can to accommodate your request. With at least ten (10) business days notice we will reschedule you to another class for a $25.00 administrative fee. If you are scheduled for a class and fail to show up for the class you will forfeit your entire tuition. Because each lesson builds upon the previous lesson, it is imperative that you attend each lesson and be on time. If you are late for your class you will not be allowed to continue and you will forfeit your tuition.
What about the incentives following a class?
Those are just one of the things that make us different from other schools. Upon completion of your course you are entitled to a free weekday Harley® bike rental. There are some stipulations regarding the free rental;
- You must 21 yrs of age (if not we will issue the certificate to a friend or relative, please bring their name to class). Certificates are not transferable.
- You must have a motorcycle endorsement.
- You must use a major credit card to cover your security deposit ($1,000.00 minimum).
- Valid for a weekday rental only (Monday-Thursday) and blackout periods may apply.
- Valid for 90 days from date of class, not replaceable if lost or stolen.
- Excludes V-Rod® and Custom bikes
Other incentives include a $75.00 rebate if you purchase a new or used bike within 30 days of your class. Speaking of differences, we also offer more classes than other schools hence our RiderCoaches are constantly teaching and tend to be more experienced. Not only do we look forward to your training we hope to become your full-service dealership.
What about weather cancellations?
Unfortunately Florida weather is not as perfect as the postcards may portray. From time to time we will encounter weather delays. Classes will go on during the rain, so bring your rain gear. If the weather becomes a safety issue due to lightning or high winds the RiderCoaches may delay classes. If there is a need to make up a class it will be held at the convenience of the majority of the class. Due to scheduling constraints, make-up classes are limited to Saturday or Sunday evenings.
